From Vanity Fair:

Beginning on August 28 Amazon Prime users will be able to watch The Cosmopolitans pilot and vote on whether it will be picked up for a full series. Should it be voted in, Stillman plans a short six-episode season for The Cosmopolitans, which he wrote “like putting two film scripts together.” And even if it doesn’t get picked up? “I’m very happy to have it as a pilot. I really feel that my IMDB page will look a little less pathetic.”

Francesca’s Pick of the Week is Whit Stillman’s ‘Damsels in Distress’ Premiering on Rialto Channel 39 in New Zealand Saturday, July 13th at 8:30pm

Whit Stillman’s Damsels in Distress will be premiering on New Zealand TV (Rialto Channel 39) this Saturday, July 13th at 8:30pm.

Damsels in Distress

Here’s what Cinephile Francesca Rudkin of Rialto Channel 39 has to say about Damsels:

Damsels in Distress
Directed by: Whit Stillman
Starring: Greta Gerwig, Adam Brody and Analeigh Tipton
Premiering: Saturday July 13, 8.30pm

This urbane, witty college comedy is Whit Stillman’s first film since 1998s Last Days of Disco, and centers around four pretentious female college students trying to teach their fellow students self esteem and manners. They do this in a variety of ways; running Seven Oaks College’s Suicide Prevention Centre where they dish out alternative therapies such as tap dancing, and dating men who are less intelligent than them to give them a step up in life. The delivery is deadpan, the characters charmingly wacky and the romantic entanglements are never straightforward. Leading the girls is the fabulous Greta Gerwig who is one of my favourite actresses of the moment, I’m also looking forward to seeing her in Noah Baumbach’s latest film Frances Ha at the New Zealand International Film Festival, which starts in Auckland on July 18th.
